Columnar Reporting and Menu Items

Has anyone implemented or have experience with Columnar Reporting?
Currently working specifically for indexing General Ledger Transaction Detail Reports that we were advised from Support would resolve general performance issues.
However, Support's experience and knowledge seemed limited; can not pinpoint missing reports, provide Access Path and Rep Sets that may need to be turned on, as well as some items are only available in the non- consolidated role-based webapps. Which we're  Read more...currently utilizing consolidated webapps, so Support's proposal doesn't appear to be fully functional.

Since we're encountering issues locating menu items, any insight on how we may find those?

Kerry,

When we dont know the source of a particular BC or any other object, the quickest way to find all occurrences is to export all delivered LPL into text files, which can be done a lot quicker using an IPA flow and then open those in an advanced text editor (Notepad++ is my favorite but others like Vim, Visual Studio or Sublime work really well too) and search for the specific columnar table youre looking for.

Matt - thank you for sharing! Our team has created and running the RepSets but the main issue we're encountering is the mapping to actual columnar related reports. Infor didn't provide the names of the Lists and we can't determine the item menu. The team was able to meet with Infor but they could not find the missing reports on the call; Infor will try to find the Access Path, then follow-up.
Although "Financial Reporting" is FEDRamp approved/available for GOV, unfortunately  Read more...it's not something we're currently utilizing and don't believe AppStudio is a viable option (for now).
I appreciate your knowledge and expertise!

Rich - Dashboard Gear product sounds interesting! Although, we are currently using Cognos Reporting for our SQL solution but will for sure keep in mind. Show less...

Hi Kerry,
I am afraid I can't be too much help on the columnar reporting in Infor, I would be happy to talk through some other reporting options with you. I work for Dashboard Gear, and we have a product optimized for Infor reporting on transactional and summarized data. We have over 300 implementations of our product in the Infor space and it allows you to use any reporting tool that can connect to SQL Server such as Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, MS Excel, etc. Would be happy to show  Read more...you what we have to offer and talk through what an implementation would look like. Show less...

Kerry,

This is something we do quite often. What specifically are you grappling with? Columnar tables are generated from RetSets, its an output option when you set up your repset so youd want to go and modify the General Ledger Transaction Detail repset.

If there is a specific report that is tied to that BusinceeClass that youre hoping this will improve performance on, that is unlikely to affect it unless you go in and modify the LPL code for that report to link it  Read more...to the Columnar dataset.

Alternatively, we often recommend using AppStudio to connect to Columnar datasets to produce custom reports to enable greater design and performance tuning.

Hi Kerry -- When we consolidated the menus, we found the documents attached to KB3543361 to be very helpful in finding the new path to things. The mapping excel sheets show the old vs. the new paths. Hope that helps!
