We just started tracking serial nbrs on PO30 receipt for specfic items. Some serial #s are more than the 16 characters allowed. How are other organizations handling this?

You could record the last 16 digits of the serial number. Usually the last digits are unique. Another option is not a great one, you could receive 1 item at a time and use a user field to store the full serial number.
Many people do not store serial numbers at the time of receiving the items for multiple reasons. You can opt to only require the serial number when issued or only store the serial number at the asset level if the item is an asset. The serial number field on the Asset  Read more...is 30 characters.
Some people keep a separate record of the serial numbers outside of Lawson if they are not purchased for assets. Show less...
