Here's my take: Harvard Business Review says that most data-driven initiatives that are failing, fail not due to technology, but to organizational resistance to change. If you've attended one of my talks, you know one of my favorite phrases is "Methodology over Technology.” A successful implementation relies not only on working with a team that understands the tech, but also has a comprehensive methodology that focuses on driving value throughout the organization, from top to bottom—quickly. Don't boil the ocean, deliver value in bite-sized pieces, be transparent, collaborate and strive to build a "community" around data to plant the seed of culture change in your organization.
